BTO bird identification

Identifying some raptors from one another can be a difficult task, especially when you see a lone bird and have nothing to compare it to. The most common mistakes made by many birders, both new and experienced, are knowing the differences between the Buzzards, the differences between Kestrel and Merlin as well as the differences between Goshawk and Sparrowhawk.
On the BTO website you can find many bird identification videos, some of which are made about raptors. The following link will take you to the video created for support on identifying Goshawk from Sparrowhawk (http://www.bto.org/about-birds/bird-id). Below this video there are 6 more pages of ID guides and if you scroll through you can find videos on the misconceptions identified above. This is an extremely useful resource provided by the BTO which we hope many will find useful.
